Go Green presented by Carter Subaru

Go Green

Through our Go Green Initiative, the Seattle Storm is committed to joining our region's citizens, governments and businesses to reduce our collective environmental footprint.

As a founding member of the Green Sports Alliance, we're devoted to making operational changes that will protect our environment for current and future generations of Storm fans. For example, the Storm is:

  • Recycling paper, glass, plastic, metal and food waste and using recycled paper products whenever possible in our business office.
  • Printing our game credentials, business cards, stationery and game night programs on Forestry Stewardship Council-certified and recycled paper.
  • Saving paper and trees by replacing our printed media guide and press kit with electronic files that will be distributed to the media via flash drives.
  • Ensuring that our fan-favorite Thundersticks, and retail bags at merchandise
stands, are made of biodegradable plastic.

3's for Trees

Carter Subaru
Mountains to Sound Greenway

The Storm and Carter Subaru have teamed up to help decrease our carbon footprint by planting trees! Every time a Storm player scores a three-pointer, Carter Subaru will plant another tree in the Mountains to Sound Greenway, the scenic byway along I-90. Last year we planted 363 trees as part of our "3's for Trees" campaign and we can beat that this year. You can help by cheering “3’s for Trees” at every Storm home game this summer. The more 3’s we hit, the more trees we plant!

Stay tuned for more information on special Carter Subaru and Mountains to Sound events later this season.

Number of trees to be planted in 2011:

Regular Season 3-point shots: 213
Playoffs x 2 26 x 2 = 52
Number of trees to be planted in 2011: 265

Number of trees planted in years past:
2010 - 363
2009 - 154

Enterprise Rent-A-Car
Together We Can Turn Any Car Green

Enterprise Rent-A-Car and its sister companies, Alamo Rent a Car and National Car Rental, are closing the loop on recycled motor oil. Enterprise has its spent motor oil collected, then refined into Eco Ultra, which they repurchase creating a cycle of re-use that will repeat itself over and over again. Green Sports Alliance

Green Sports Alliance

It is exciting to see teams across the country working together to improve their environmental performance. Teams like the Storm, a proud co-founder of the Green Sports Alliance, have come up with new programs that reduce energy use and improve recycling. Last year alone, nearly 60% of the trash produced in KeyArena was converted to compost and over 800 fans carpooled to games. We need fans, players, coaches and owners to all work together to green our community. Check out GreenSportsAlliance.org or the Go Green section of StormBasketball.com to find out what teams are doing to make it a better world.
